USG Funds Clean-Up Project

The Undergraduate Student Government, representatives of Ohio State the University Community Business Association, Campus Partners and South Campus Gateway have begun as a pilot project to present a more welcoming “front door” to the campus and the neighborhood.

Maintenance staff and equipment from South Campus Gateway are conducting daily sweeping and clean-up of the public areas along High Street from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Thursday through Monday.

Peter Koltak, president of Undergraduate Student Government (USG), said that students take pride in their university and in their neighborhoods.  “Our involvement in this cooperative project demonstrates our commitment to a clean and safe community, and we challenge other members of the university community to support this effort,” he said.

Each of the partners is contributing approximately $12,500 to continue the clean-up at least through spring quarter 2009.  The USG contribution is drawn from the allotment of Coca-Cola funds to support campus projects.

The Gateway is cleaning from Chittenden to Lane Ave and will provide the following services:

    • Using the sidewalk vacuum vehicle to pick up all of the loose trash.
    • Hand-sweeping and bulk pick-up as necessary.
    • Removing illegally posted handbills from utility poles and street signage.
    • Spraying weeds in the walkway areas and tree grates.
